The authentication verifies that the certificate is issued by a healthcare practitioner who is registered with the HPCSA. The verification ensures that the practitioner is in good standing and legally permitted to practice medicine in South Africa.
The HPCSA verified medical certificate is a requirement if the letter or certificate is intended for use overseas, and especially for visas or work in Spain or Taiwan. It needs to be verified by the HPCSA before it is sent to DIRCO for apostilling or legalisation.

How To Apply For your HPCSA verified medical certificate
- Visit your local doctor or health practitioner, explain your requirements, and request a medical certificate or medical letter that confirms your current health status (see below for more information.
- Download the application form, complete it, scan it and email it to us along with a copy of your ID or Passport and/or your Medical Letter issued in South Africa by a Health Practitioner.
- We will check the forms and the scans that you sent us and confirm that these documents will be acceptable. The medical letter that you courier to us must be the original one issued by the doctor or health practitioner.
- Once payment is received we submit your application to the HPCSA and confirm with you that your application has been successfully submitted.
- We will then send you an invoice with payment instructions, and you will courier the documents to our Johannesburg offices (we can arrange collection if you are in South Africa).
- Once payment is received and your documents have arrived at our offices we submit them to the HPCSA in Pretoria by hand the next day.
- We follow and ensure that everything is being processed and once the HPCSA has completed the process we collect it the following business day.
- We send you a high resolution scan of the verified document to ensure that all the details are correct and for your peace of mind.
- Once you have confirmed that all details are correct we send it for apostilling (if you have ordered that option), or courier it directly to you. Local courier takes 1 business day, worldwide courier takes 4-5 days.

The HPCSA Verified Medical Certificate with Apostille , which can also be known as a medical report for visas or visa medical letter or medical report , is required for visa applications and verifies the authenticity of a medical certificate issued in South Africa.
The HPCS Verified Medical Certificate states that no further vaccinations or medical procedures are required before you leave South Africa. In Spain this letter is known as a medical certificate of good health.
Your doctor will do the necessary tests (including X Rays if needed), and issue a letter stating that if you a free from any of the diseases that could cause serious repercussions to public health according to the specifications of the International Health Regulations of 2005. This letter must be on the health practitioner’s letterhead, and be signed and dated by the doctor and include his HPCSA registration number.
We will then take the letter by hand to the HPCSA, get it authenticated and courier it back to you, or send it for further apostilling or legalisation at DIRCO depending on the options you have chosen.
