How to apply for an RTMC Drivers Licence Confirmation Letter when you are not a South African citizen
If you have a South African drivers licence and do not have a South African ID document then getting an RTMC Drivers Licence Confirmation Letter can be a more complex process than the normal procedure.

You need to provide a copy of your Traffic Register Number Certificate, as well as a Verification letter from the Department of Home Affairs. Obtaining this letter can take a long time, and can delay your application for a Drivers Licence Confirmation Letter by a long time, so it is essential for you to obtain this Verification letter as soon as possible before starting the process of applying for the Drivers Licence Confirmation Letter (also known as a Letter of Entitlement)
Unfortunately we are not able to assist with obtaining the Verification letter from Home Affairs, but we have detailed the procedure that you have to follow here:
To obtain the Verification letter you need to send copies of your passport, permit, or any other document that you used to obtain your Traffic Register Number Certificate.
These documents should be emailed to the appropriate email addresses listed below:
- Visas issued at Head Office [email protected]
- Relative/Visitor’s Visa Section 11(6) [email protected]
- General Work Visa Section 19(2) [email protected]
- Asylum Seeker Temporary Visa [email protected]
- Permanent residence permit (PRP) [email protected]
- Visas issued abroad/SA embassy (place of issue indicate the capital city of the countryMaseru) [email protected] (the emails are managed by Foreign Office Coordination (FOC) who contacts embassies)
The Department of Home Affairs will subsequently issue a Verification letter to you which can be used with your Traffic Register Number Certificate to get your Drivers Licence Confirmation Letter.
Once you have this Verification Letter from Home Affairs we can assist you in obtaining your Drivers Licence Confirmation Letter from the RTMC.
