Get your South African degrees accepted internationally with a SAQA Verification letter

SAQA (South African Qualifications Authority) verification of a South African academic qualification for overseas use is the process of confirming the authenticity and legitimacy of a qualification obtained in South Africa, so that it can be recognised or accepted in another country.

We can authenticate up to 8 qualifications from SAQA recognised academic institutions. SAQA will issue a verification letter attached to copies of your degrees or qualifications

After SAQA verification, the documents need to apostilled by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) or if the country is not a member of the Hagie Convention they need to get a Certificate of Authentication from DIRCO and then be attested at the appropriate embassy to ensure they are accepted in the foreign country.

More Information

The SAQA verification letter is for individuals who need a verification letter confirming their tertiary qualifications obtained in South Africa. People normally need this when emigrating or applying for a job overseas. Once the letter is issued and apostilled or legalised at DIRCO your academic qualifications can be accepted overseas.

The verification letter is limited to registered qualifications and not short courses nor foreign qualifications or professional designations. This is the procedure for your qualifications:

IRegarding the advertised 28 day turnaround time, in cases where the qualifications are not listed in the National Learners’ Records Database (NLRD), SAQA will reach out to the respective institutions for verification. The time it takes to complete the verification letter will depend on how quickly these institutions respond to their requests. This reliance on third-party verification may impact the overall turnaround time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to send you my original degree and transcripts?

No, you need to send us high resolution scans of your original degree. The degree should be in its original form and not a certified copy

Can I verify my degree issued in Afrikaans?

SAQA prefers to verify degrees that have been issued in English and Afrikaans degrees may cause a significant delay as SAQA may request for an english version to be issued by your institution. We strongly suggest that you apply to your institution for an english version of your degree before applying for SAQA verification.

Does this letter have an expiry date?

No, this verification letter does not have an expiry date. Some countries may require this letter to be handed in within a set period of time from date of issue, especially if this letter is also apostilled or legalised.

Please check with your local authorities whether the letter has to be handed in within a defined timeframe.

Is there any expedited or faster option to get this letter?

Unfortunately SAQA has high demand for their services and the standard turnaround time is 28 day once they have issued their quote (which takes 4-5 days). There is a possibility that we may get it quicker than that and sometimes we can get the letter in as little as 14 days but we cannot guarantee it. We collect your letter by hand on the day that it is ready from SAQA to ensure the quickest turnaround

Do I need to get this letter apostilled or legalised for my current country?

Every country has different rules and regulations regarding apostilles. Generally SAQA verification letters need to be apostilled or legalised by DIRCO, and we advise you to follow this process

We strongly suggest that you check with your foreign authority whether this letter needs to be apostilled, legalised or translated.

Are you affiliated or accredited with SAQA or DIRCO?

Embassy Services (Pty) Ltd is a private company and not a government department or High Court issuing body or associated with DIRCO or any foreign embassy. We provide consulting, submission and collection services, and charge for our expertise and for successfully and quickly obtaining and legalising documents.
